COURSE PURPOSE

When working in extreme temperature conditions, either hot or cold, the human body can become overwhelmed and become unable to maintain a normal temperature, resulting in heat- or cold-related stress. Heat stress and cold stress range in severity and may contribute to adverse worker safety and dangerous health effects.

This activity will provide awareness regarding heat stress and cold stress, including associated disorders and symptoms, and provide an understanding of strategies to prevent related exposures and illnesses. An overview of specific illnesses, injuries, and treatments associated with heat stress and cold stress will be covered, and we’ll offer guidance for recognizing stress conditions and preventing those situations.

The overarching focus of this activity is to reinforce the importance maintaining a safe workplace and illustrating the critical importance of well-developed heat stress- and cold stress-prevention programs that include appropriate training, outline responsibilities, identify the equipment necessary to protect workers, and include steps for preventing exposures and illnesses that can result from work in extreme environments.

Join IIAR for an informative webinar that will examine Heat Stress and Cold Stress and their associated disorders, symptoms, and methods of prevention.
