Proposed Revision to ANSI/IIAR 2-1999
Background Information
ANSI/IIAR 2-1999, "American National Standard for Equipment, Design, and Installation of Ammonia Mechanical Refrigerating Systems" is an approved American National Standard. It is a guide to the design, manufacture, installation and use of ammonia mechanical refrigeration systems in industrial occupancies. The Standard is not intended to supplant existing safety codes. The International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR) issued this standard originally as IIAR 74-2 in March 1974. American Standards Institute (ANSI) approved it as an American National Standard in March 1978, and subsequent revisions in July 1985, December 1992, and August 1999. The current edition of the standard is ANSI/IIAR 2-1999.
The proposed changes to ANSI/IIAR 2-1999, designated as BSR/IIAR 2-1999R, include:
- Complete reorganization to facilitate future revisions to the standard
- Removal of informative appendix on Emergency Discharge of Ammonia Refrigerant
- Relocation of the informative material covering Ammonia Characteristics and Properties into a new informative index.
- Incorporation of canvass-approved material from Addendum a to ANSI/IIAR 2-1999
A third public review of BSR/IIAR 2-1999R will be conducted from April 4, 2008 to May 4, 2008. Comments must be received by IIAR no later than 5:00 pm EST May 4th. Click on the following links to connect to:
