Sustainability | It is a message that extends beyond the
environmental compatibility and economic efficiencies
of ammonia refrigeration. Sustainability also relates
to the continuity of ammonia refrigeration, from the
system design to system operations and maintenance.
Sustainability is growing as a key marketing point
for the industry as a whole, and the food industry in
particular.
Steve Yucknut, Vice President of Sustainability for Kraft
Foods, will deliver the plenary presentation at the 2008
IIAR Ammonia Refrigeration Conference & Exhibition in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He is responsible for leading Kraft toward its vision of making sustainability a
part of every business decision, balancing environmental, social and economic
responsibility. Yucknut will discuss how sustainable products and processes are more
than a marketing strategy that work together to meet the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Conference Technical Program Highlights | The technical program
content at the 2008 IIAR Ammonia Refrigeration Conference & Exhibition expands
on the topic of sustainability. Presentations will cover many different aspects of
sustainability as it relates to ammonia refrigeration. The technical program spans 2½
days, consisting of End User Workshops, Panel Discussions, Formal Technical Papers
and technomercials (exhibitor sponsored training sessions).
Energy Conservation | Technical papers, workshops and panels will report
on the latest operating procedures and design strategies that can boost the energy
efficiency of your system and improve your bottom line.
System Maintenance/Mechanical Integrity | A technical paper
will examine stress calculations and impact testing and workshops will examine
permanent pump out systems, hydrostatic relief protection, pipe corrosion issues and
troubleshooting evaporators.
Regulatory Compliance | Workshops will report on the latest homeland
security and chemical security regulatory developments and focus on working with
OSHA inspectors.
New Case Studies | Tech papers will present a detailed cost comparison of
ammonia and other competitive refrigerants, report on a new NH3/CO2 refrigeration
system located in Tokyo and examine a liquid hammer incident.
Codes & Standards | Industry experts will discuss the latest developments
on codes and standards relating to the ammonia refrigeration industry, including
those that are applied in countries around the world. Reports will focus on fire codes,
mechanical codes, ASHRAE 15, IIAR 2 and other new IIAR standards.
Ammonia Refrigeration Research | A panel of experts will report
on the latest research projects addressing issues such as hydraulic shock and stress
corrosion cracking.
Education and Training | It is the challenge facing every end user: hiring,
training and retaining qualified operators. The panel will discuss pros and cons of
various training strategies including on-line, on-site and on-campus classroom training
and potential sources of operators.
